The Paras’ 10-P Company Challenge

in: Running

We love  challenges here at extreme fitness and today had an excellent challenge from local boxing Brian Harvey from Brighton’s ABC boxing to run the Para’s 10 P company challenge! For those of you who don’t know what it involves the paras 10 basically involves a 10 mile cross country race completed with 35lb army style backpack and army boots! The test is used by the parachute regiment as part of the entry requirements to pass the paratrooper selection process- they have a cut off time of 1 hour 50 minutes so this of course is the time we will be aiming to beat! Neither Brian nor myself is of particular small frame- myself weighing in at a hefty 96kg and am sure Brian must be around this mark- this challenge may not be particularly easy! So training will begin tomorrow with a short 3 mile jog over rough terrain with a 10 kg weighted vest to start. To be honest running is not the strong point of my fitness base however, A CHALLENGE IS A CHALLENGE and the paras 10 is a tough one at that!
However that said last year I ran the notorious tough guy race – an 8 mile race with frozen lake swims, underwater sections, 50 foot A frames and 50 meter barb wire crawls, all completed in literally sub zero February temperatures so I’m hoping this will be easier- even at least in preparation than that!
